There are two main types of Assurant health plans: HMOs and PPOs. Which one
is right for you?
HMO plans, or Health Maintenance Organizations, cover more of your health
care costs but the monthly premium is higher. You’ll have low out of pocket costs and minimal
co-pays.
The primary care physician that you select will coordinate your health care either
treating you directly or referring you to specialists when the need arises.
PPO plans, or
Preferred Provider Organizations, have lower monthly premiums and greater flexibility. They require
no referral to see a specialist.
The downside is that out of pocket expenses are higher and most
plans require that you meet a yearly deductible before services are covered in full.
